The Lawyer’s
Helper Services

Through customized service agreements for every client based on their unique needs, I identify ways to help overloaded transactional attorneys. Whether on a project or ongoing basis, I can provide back-office support, increase legal work output, develop needed processes or systems, and free up time for attorneys to generate more business or explore other interests.

I do not meet with an attorney’s or practice’s clients, and I'm not interested in building my own legal client base; my sole mission is to help other transactional lawyers make their practices as successful as possible.

EXPERIENCED LAW PRACTICE  ASSISTANCE

  • Backlogged work

  • Creating, updating and/or developing uniform, templated forms, including engagement letters

  • Proofreading and completing necessary office work

  • Completing legal tasks, preparing forms and filings

  • Assisting with training legal associates and staff

PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND PROCESS DEVELOPMENT

  • Identifying inefficiencies in processes and developing process systems

  • Creating and updating client interview guides, workflow checklists, and timelines

  • Identifying and integrating technology platforms for improved project management, workflow, and function

  • Consulting on processes and systems, including paperless file and email storage/retrieval

  • Developing flowcharts for estate planning

All services are customizable.

Every client has different challenges. I will learn about your practice, where you or your firm could use some experienced help, then create a plan and budget that works for you. I offer a high level of knowledge and skill to help you get the work done.

I am an Iowa licensed attorney, the sole member of Van Houten Law Firm, PLC., and can work as a contractor in any other state; the ethics of such arrangements will be addressed in the Service Agreement. Additionally, thanks to modern technology, I can work remotely just as efficiently as I can on site.
